Common problems here

What drives wildlife calls in Hillsborough

The 2020 Census counted 96% of Hillsborough residents as urban, yet about half of the county's 1,022 square miles of land is rural. That edge between city and country is where many conflicts start.

Bats with rabies

In 2025, the state Department of Health recorded four rabid bats in Hillsborough. A bat in the house is never something to pick up.

Protected land all around

The county has bought more than 63,400 acres of sensitive wildlife habitat and corridors through its ELAPP land program. Homes along those corridors live right next to raccoons, opossums and snakes.

Stray cats and rabies

DOH-Hillsborough issued rabies alerts for rabid stray or unvaccinated cats in Town 'N' Country (April 2025) and Gibsonton (September 2026). Feeding strays outdoors also feeds raccoons.

Older Tampa homes

Older roofs, soffits and gable vents wear out, and every gap is an invitation to roof rats, squirrels and bats.

Communities we serve

These unincorporated communities are part of the area we serve.

Wildlife removal in Carrollwood

Two rabid wildlife cases here made the news. In July 2020, DOH-Hillsborough said a woman out walking at night picked up a bat from a Carrollwood sidewalk and was bitten; the bat had rabies. In March 2018, a raccoon in Carrollwood Village fought a dog, tested positive and set off a 60-day rabies alert across northwest Hillsborough.

Wildlife removal in Town 'n' Country

Florida's restaurant inspectors closed seven Town 'n' Country food businesses for conditions naming rodents from 2022 through 2025, by our count of the state's records, and three of those were on West Hillsborough Avenue.

Wildlife removal in Lutz

Patch reported that Hillsborough's first rabid raccoon of 2017 was reported in Lutz on April 21.

Wildlife removal in Lake Magdalene

In May 2017, DOH-Hillsborough placed a 60-day rabies alert on a neighborhood north of Lake Magdalene Boulevard after two raccoons tested positive. News reports said Lutz, but the street at the alert's center sits in the Lake Magdalene Census place. Two Lake Magdalene food businesses had four closures for rodent activity between them in 2023 and 2024, state records show.

Wildlife removal in Westchase

Squirrels have damaged community property here: at its March 2026 meeting, the Westchase Community Development District heard that its maintenance garage needed repairs for squirrel damage, the Westchase WOW reported.

Wildlife removal in Citrus Park

In August 2023, Hillsborough County Schools confirmed to FOX 13 that bats were living inside Northwest Elementary, whose Hutchison Road campus sits in the Citrus Park Census place.

Wildlife removal in Keystone

Inspectors closed one Keystone eatery for rodents on two separate visits in 2022, state records show.

Wildlife removal in Greater Northdale

A squirrel that shorted out overhead equipment cut power to about 1,450 customers in the Northdale area in December 2014, Patch reported, citing TECO. State records show a Northdale food business was closed in March 2023 for rodent and fly activity.

  • There's a first time for everything! Somehow a snake made it's way into our office building and chose my office to hang out. I called Pro Wildlife on Sunday and explained it to the tech. They arranged the appointment to come and remove it for today @ 9am. The tech Zak Brooks arrived and got the snake out very quickly! He was friendly and professional!! Definitely recommend and we'd use them again if needed! Thank you again!
