Common problems here
Wildlife in and around Clearwater
Clearwater is built up, but the city keeps preserves and restored wetlands, and its eastern half drains to Old Tampa Bay.
Moccasin Lake Nature Park
The city describes Moccasin Lake as a 54-acre nature preserve, home to gopher tortoises, raccoons and many birds.
Kapok Park wetlands
At Kapok Park, 19.4 acres of restored wetlands filter water headed for Alligator Lake and Old Tampa Bay and give wildlife a home. The park's rules say plainly: do not feed wildlife.
The Alligator Creek watershed
Much of eastern Clearwater drains through Alligator Creek and Alligator Lake into Old Tampa Bay, a 5,546-acre watershed shared with Safety Harbor and unincorporated Pinellas.
A county feeding rule
Pinellas County code treats putting out food or garbage in a way that attracts raccoons, coyotes or other wildlife, and creates a nuisance, as a public nuisance.
Rats in Clearwater
What Clearwater's rules say about rats
Clearwater's code compliance guide and trash rules are unusually direct about rats. Here's what they say. See rat removal across Pinellas County.
Harborage is illegal
City ordinance makes it unlawful to let garbage, rubbish, dead animals or food waste build up on a property "so that rats may be afforded food or harborage."
Debris that hides vermin
Under Clearwater's Community Development Code, piles of debris are a violation when they contain, or are likely to contain, rodents, reptiles or other vermin. Grass and weeds over 12 inches are a violation too.
One pickup a week
Clearwater collects household trash once a week. With a week between pickups, a closed lid matters. The city asks residents to put garbage in the container and close the lid.
Curb timing
Carts go out no earlier than 7 p.m. the night before and come back in by 7 a.m. the day after. Yard waste and bulk debris shouldn't sit at the curb more than 24 hours before pickup.
Report harborage next door
Clearwater Code Compliance, (727) 562-4720, takes reports of debris, overgrowth and other code violations.

There's a first time for everything! Somehow a snake made it's way into our office building and chose my office to hang out. I called Pro Wildlife on Sunday and explained it to the tech. They arranged the appointment to come and remove it for today @ 9am. The tech Zak Brooks arrived and got the snake out very quickly! He was friendly and professional!! Definitely recommend and we'd use them again if needed! Thank you again!

Josh came out & removed a dead cat from my engine that had been there for over six months! Absolutely no one else would do the job and other places said they couldn’t even find the animal. Josh found it and removed it with ease. I can’t thank him enough!
