What does bat removal look like in a Land O' Lakes house?

Pro Wildlife Removal logo

The same way a Land O' Lakes high school did in 2014: one-way exclusion doors that let bats leave but not come back, fitted between August 15 and April 15. Bats can't legally be killed, poisoned or moved. Pro Wildlife Removal checks the home for the gaps a colony uses, fits the doors and seals up afterward. Call (844) 264-6254.

Bats in Land O' Lakes

Bats in Land O' Lakes, starting with Sunlake High

Land O' Lakes had a bat colony at Sunlake High School in 2014. Here is what happened, and what Pasco and FWC say about bats.

Five roosts at one school

WUFT reported in October 2014 that Brazilian free-tailed bats had been at Sunlake High School in Land O' Lakes since the year before, roosting in five different spots around the campus.

A rabid bat on campus

A few weeks before that October 2014 report, one of the Sunlake bats was found dead, and it tested positive for rabies, WUFT said.

Out through one-way doors

A contractor and FWC finished removing the Sunlake colony in October 2014 with bat excluders, one-way doors that let the bats out and keep them from returning to their roosts.

Bat houses by the cypress swamp

In 2014, teachers and about 50 student volunteers planned two bat houses, built from four 2-by-2-foot boxes, each meant to hold about 200 to 300 bats, on telephone poles 15 to 20 feet up: one behind a baseball field, the other at the front of the school near a cypress swamp.

A bat that likes buildings

The Sunlake colony was Brazilian free-tailed bats, which FWC says live throughout Florida. FWC says in Florida they prefer to roost in buildings such as attics and sheds, plus bridges and bat houses.

Keep bats out, DOH says

DOH-Pasco's July 30, 2026 rabies advisory, after two rabid raccoons in east Pasco, asked residents to keep wildlife, bats included, out of homes, schools and other occupied buildings.

Bat contact gets reported

Pasco County Animal Services, based in Land O' Lakes, says bare skin contact with a bat, or a bat found in a room where someone slept, should be reported to DOH-Pasco or the county.

  • Steve did a great job getting rid of the bats we had in our bat house that was attached to our house and sealing it off and our house. I would highly recommend him.

  • Brandon came out of his way to help remove a raccoon who had decided to use my front door mat for nap. Brandon was very polite and professional. He removed Ralph without issue and pretty quickly.

  • There's a first time for everything! Somehow a snake made it's way into our office building and chose my office to hang out. I called Pro Wildlife on Sunday and explained it to the tech. They arranged the appointment to come and remove it for today @ 9am. The tech Zak Brooks arrived and got the snake out very quickly! He was friendly and professional!! Definitely recommend and we'd use them again if needed! Thank you again!

FAQ

Bat questions in Land O' Lakes

What kind of bats are in Land O' Lakes roofs?

Brazilian free-tailed bats are one likely kind: they were the species at Sunlake High in 2014, and FWC says they favor attics, sheds and bridges in Florida, since the state's caves are probably too humid for them.

What months are bat exclusions allowed in Land O' Lakes?

From August 15 to April 15. FWC's maternity season runs April 16 to August 14, when exclusion devices need a permit, and devices should stay up at least four nights with lows forecast at 50°F or above.

Will a bat house get bats out of my attic?

Not on its own. Sunlake's bat houses came after the colony was excluded, not instead of it, and FWC says a bat house is not a substitute for exclusion because bats rarely leave an occupied building by choice.

Is it legal to kill or poison bats in Pasco?

No. FWC says killing bats is illegal under rule 68A-4.001, and using pesticides or poisons to harm, kill or deter bats is prohibited.

How quickly can you reach a Land O' Lakes home with bats?

Same-day appointments for bats are often available in Land O' Lakes. Call (844) 264-6254.
